All of those mics go into a mixer for further processing. At least with traditional drum recordings. With Superior (which emulates all these mics and gives you control over bleed) you can often get a more authentic sound. For example you have a mic inside the kick drum, a mic on the outside of the kick drum, a snare mic under, snare on top, ambient mics and overhead mics. If you are trying to get rock track, especially classical 70's those can only get you so far before you discover elements are just "not how you want them to sound."įrom my standpoint the most real acoustical drum recordings are done in the traditional recording studio method.
Is this a pop track? Jazz? Rock? If you are doing a Katy Perry type track just do it in Groove Agent, Battery, or Kontakt. I think you need to explain your audio goals. What else can you do? For drum rolls it can be pending the the type of roll. How would you process the drum track? or would you do two or three separate tracks so you can process them differently like a real drum set?ĬheersIt sort of sounds like you answered your own question. I use varied velocity and try not quantize my notes 100% so that some are slightly off axis and also use the quantize function to get some swing.
